Welcome to the State of the Nation Report 2024 produced by RMP Risk Control for the Public Sector. This document represents the second iteration of the report. The report will be updated and republished on an annual basis.
The Global Risks Report 20241, which considers risks that maintain the potential to negatively impact a significant proportion of global GDP, population or natural resources, predicted 2024 would experience a continuation of rapid technological advancements and economic uncertainty. This would be compounded by two ongoing major crises associated with climate change and geo-political conflict. Tensions and active hostilities in various regions around the world would lead to increased insecurity. Simultaneously, nations would struggle with the effects of extreme weather, as efforts for climate-change adaptation fell short of addressing the scale of the problem. Cost-of-living pressures would persist due to high inflation and interest rates, causing further economic uncertainty. Negative headlines would continue to fuel growing societal frustrations and polarisation, compounded by risks, such as misinformation and disinformation.
