Police officers face all the risks.
We reduce the cost of them.

Home > Police officers face all the risks. We reduce the cost of them.

We recognise that the environment you police is constantly changing, and each police service faces unique challenges and exposures. Our practical approach incorporates both analysis and consultation to identify individual areas that can be improved, in a cost effective way, to deliver demonstrable savings.

That’s what we do. We drive down the total cost of risk.

We are on your side

At times, police work must be performed under the worst of circumstances – dealing with domestic violence, confronting offenders, working long shifts with limited personnel, and often with only seconds to make critical decisions. We are under no illusions that the officer on the frontline is a hero, and risk is an everyday occurrence.

Our process

We study what’s currently in place to deal with risks, what gaps there are in certain areas and what are considered to be the key actions that need to be undertaken. Once the key risks and threats have been identified, we help police services make strategic decisions around investment, resource allocation and operational priorities.

Police authority claims handling is our specialism

RMP is a long-term stable partner with police services. We understand the challenges, and can handle all claims types that you are likely to receive. We do not handle claims to a formula. Every claim is unique and is individually assessed and managed by experienced claims handlers.

Our commitment to you

We aim to lower the total cost of risk of UK police services through the following:

Genuine public sector expertise

We are a leading provider of insurance, risk management and claims services to the public sector, working with more than 300 local authorities, police forces and fire brigades throughout the UK. Our experience and specialist knowledge mean that we understand the public sector – and the issues you are dealing with – inside out.

Extensive coverage

We offer comprehensive cover for the wide range of exposures that police services face, giving you peace of mind that they are covered.

Excellent claims handling

We pride ourselves on our excellent claims service, which we have honed through handling more than a million claims, all while adhering to strict due diligence requirements. For police services that handle claims in-house, we can offer support to help you minimise your exposures and make your claims handling more cost effective.

Financial security

Insurance cover is provided by our underwriting partners AIG Europe, QBE Insurance and HSB Engineering Insurance, and claims management is provided by our associated company, Gallagher Bassett. All of our underwriting partners have financial ratings, so we offer excellent financial stability and longevity.

Did you know?

In 2015, our partner, Gallagher Bassett ran a “blue light” workshop focusing on psychological profiling as a means to reduce vehicle accident in emergency response situations. Our work helped our blue light clients contain and reduce the financial, reputational and human cost associated with such incidents.

Gallagher Bassett has 10 offices and over 300 staff who provide dedicated claims handling and risk control services for over 120 Local Authorities and 25 Police Authorities, as well as the MOD and other Central Government departments

We support covert operations

Not all risks associated with police services can be processed routinely and we recognise that special, dedicated arrangements need to put in place where covert operations are involved in an incident with a third party. We will discuss and agree with you an appropriate strategy in order to maintain the strictest of confidence.

A question to all risk managers…
Want to keep up to date with the latest changes in law?

Our latest casualty policy for police services is more specific in its scope, and includes ‘wrongful entry or eviction which interferes with right of private occupancy’.
