The most dangerous school trip on our planet is actually not a trip, it’s a daily expedition. It’s a walk to the most remote school in the world. The average UK school expedition can be a stressful experience that begins with the shouts of children, and ends with a skinny latte for stressed teachers and parents. But, in Sichuan Province, that type of journey would be a joy to undertake.

Twice daily, pupils who attend Gulu, a school in China, have to climb a mountain to be educated.  Students must negotiate a narrow, rocky mountain pass and cross freezing rivers as the school is located halfway up a mountain, and takes 5 hours to climb.

As UK risk managers, we know how to lower the cost of risk – but finding a safe, risk-free way up this mountain might test even our expertise.
